Chameleon

"Camouflage is thus only a secondary reason why most chameleons change color.
So why would they want to change colors? Scientists believe that chameleons change color to reflect their moods. By doing so, they send social signals to other chameleons. For example, darker colors tend to mean a chameleon is angry. Lighter colors might be used to attract mates.
Some chameleons also change colors to help their bodies adjust to changes in temperature or light. For example, a chameleon that gets cold might change to a darker color to absorb more heat and warm its body."

So it seems this chameleon lady tries to attract males. ;)

But let's see how I made her.:

  • Much green yarn
  • Two cheerful colored yarn
  • A little red yarn (for the tongue)
  • Hook (3mm)
  • Black thread
  • Sponge or left over fabrics
  • Little wooden pearls (2)
  • Scissors
  • Black microliner/Black glass paint (for drawing the eyes)
  • Sewing needle
1. The body of the chameleon is basically a crocheted sack and sphere attached by crochet snitches as well. The only interesting thing about them are the stripes at the back of body. I used a salmon and a pink piece of yarn. And crocheted a pink-salmon-pink and a salmon-pink-salmon trio. (I am just as good with colors as usual men so if it wasn't salmon or pink, please let me know)
2. I completed the body with a crest and two little horns on the top of her head.
3. I crocheted her legs from the above mentioned yarns as well in four different combination depending on which was the first, second and third used color.
4. The tail's success is up to the wire inside it -as well as the tongue's. After they were ready, I fixed the tongue by thread and sewed it as it was her mouth then crocheted the tail to the other of the body. The tail is about as long as the body itself.
5. Obviously, before completing each parts I stuffed them with sponge.
6. Last but not least, I sewed two pearls to the opposite sides of her head and drew little dots to each pearls - make sure they are not symmetric :D

And that's it - in a nutshell...

See you  soon! :*
